Al Smith [USA] – 08. Quite A Time.
Lp: Clock Works, 1978 - Acetate, handmade, private.
From RateYourMusic.Com:
"A one-off acetate! No vinyl exist!Longest track on the album 'Clockworks' is very close to the early Kraftwerk with a strong hypnotical rhythm surplussed on last 3 minutes with groovy dark analogue synthesiser effects. Some other tracks are singer/songwriter in Neil Young/David Crosby style with some slight German Cluster based background sound.'Earthrise/Flying low' is an electronic instrumental in same style as title track 'Clockworks'.Very unusual sound, inbetween psychedelic and electronic music, and some nice songs inbetween. This acetate is from 1978 and he also has made another acetate in 1976 'Up all night'.Both acetates are totally unknown and should be completelly dissapeared in non-existance,if I didn't find 'Clock works'.One sad detail, the acetate is in very poor condition.38 minutes of music,of which 7 minutes grooves are dissapeared from the disc. The good news is that 31 minutes are still in fine playable condition.Cover is as handmade as can be.Labels are typed and has a very identifical name : Hand Made.An acetate to rank raritywise on the same level as Jesse Harper or Fairfield Ski."
