''If you’re used to the high-tech production wizardry of contemporary recordings, California’s The Joyful Sound will definitely bum you out big-time. This co-ed electric folk-rock band definitely comes across homemade-to-the-core with their low-tech sound and less-than-perfect voices, not to mention a few clunker notes here and there. Still, I find myself completely taken with this album. There’s a genuineness and charm here – the kind that often seems to fizzle out once a group gets a contract and a budget. All eleven songs are original compositions with lyrics usually taken from Scripture, sample titles being ‘What Is This Joy’, ‘1 Was Glad’, ‘He Shall Feed’, ‘Path Of The Just’ and ‘I Will Sacrifice’. The harmonies are sincere and from-the-heart, the songwriting is excellent, and violin and harpsichord are used effectively. The guitar work is also strong (both acoustic and electric), leaving a pleasant jangle throughout the whole lp. From a place called Shiloh Temple in Oakland, California. Cool cover of undulating hands raised in praise. Beautiful, simple and worshipful stuff that shames today’s high-gloss praise gook.'' (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott, page 134)
