Connan Mockasin – Macheeky (Redbull NZ Session)
Dunno how many of my current viewership is into Connan, but we need to change that. Macheeky here is an outtake that's been present in basically every era of Conan's career, from early mockasins shows, to mid-2010s sets. It's this beautifully haunting song about dating a quirky Japanese girl (I think). It's the kind of song that makes me want to learn guitar. Macheeky has never been officially released, but a bizzarely dreamlike autoharp-led studio version (back when connan was trying to be an autoharp rockstar) has leaked because his fans absolutely rock.
The studio version though, isn't as deliciously haunting as many live versions, but most of those live ones are either terrible quality or incomplete. There's one particular good quality one, but it's from an acoustic set that seems to barely exist online anymore (which I also plan to upload) and not as fun/creepy.
Well I'm happy to say I've found it. The white whale. A good quality (if not a little scratchy) soundboard from some Redbull sponsored session with the haunting feel I so crave. It starts off slow and sweet, and builds into this heavy, visceral jam. You can really feel the emotion, as Connan is almost screaming by the end. Then, it cools where the song would usually end, and blasts off into this absolutely rocking improv jam for another five minutes. THIS is why I check soulseek all the time.
This Valentine's, if you're single, Viewbob will be here with love-adjacent songs all week. Get ready. I'll be your valentine. Please somebody be mine.
