Melkutus – Taru Aaltojen Ruokopillistä (1983)

Only the most adventurous need apply. Yes this is Finnish folk music

Taru Aaltojen Ruokopillistä was originally composed to descripe a Finnish lake famous for its birdlife. The tune is about birdsong, but it is also about the lake as a whole - the motion of the water, the whispering of reeds, sudden danger, death, and returning to everyday life. As the name of the tune implies, the most important instrument used is the "ruokopilli" the reed whistle. Other instruments: birch clarinet. 5-string and 9-string kanteles in diffrent tunings. 36-string kantele in even tuning. Chanticleer whistles, clay recorders, and jew harp.
