Following 2020’s Deep End Shallow (Out of your Head Records) and Revolutionary Etudes, on March 19th 2021 Curt Sydnor will release The Consort as a 10” vinyl edition on new label Passerine Records. Recorded with bandmates Michael Coltun and Cem Misirlioglu, who had recently served with Sydnor as the final rhythm section for “Bubu King” Janka Nabay (1964-2018), this Summer 2018 DIY recording session captures the trio moving beyond dance and groove music into Sydnor’s own evocative domain with songs that depict insomnia and the reanimation of lost Virginia river towns. Fittingly, it was self-recorded in two or three late-night marathon sessions.

The album features collaborators Raphael McGregor on lap steel guitar, Aaron Dugan on guitar and Mirah on sampled vocals. Side A consists of three original Sydnor songs; side B consists of studio improvisations with some overdub and collage processes applied in post-production. One additional track that could not be included on the 10” vinyl will appear on the CD edition and with a digital download. A detailed insert with lyrics and a handwritten notation excerpt will be included with the vinyl edition.
